    Section 1327
    Compulsory School Attendance
“Every child of compulsory school age having a legal residence in this Commonwealth, as provided in this article, and every migratory child of compulsory school age, is required to attend a day school. Every parent, guardian, or other person having control or charge of any child or children of compulsory school age is required to send such child or children to a school……Such child or children – shall attend such school continuously through the entire term.”

    Bulletin 71
Manual for Child Accounting and Pupil Personnel Work in Pennsylvania
“Section 1329 of the School Laws Provides that the Board of School Directors may upon satisfactory evidence furnished it, excuse pupil on account of physical, mental or other urgent reasons. When the term “other urgent reasons” is strictly construed, it very clearly implies that the reason must be serious and that they apply to the child himself, and not, ordinarily, to home conditions. Sickness, impassable roads, quarantine, death in the immediate family, or weather so inclement as to endanger the health of the child constitute the lawful “other urgent reasons” for absence other than very exceptional cases.”
