The RMS Career Fest is an annual event held at Ridley Middle School. This year the event will be held on April 24th. Originally, the idea of the RMS Career Fest was developed in response to low attendance on "Take Your Child to Work Day". The school felt that the best way to serve the students who came to school on this day was to provide an opportunity for them to learn about various careers.
Several years later, the RMS Career Fest has turned into one of the highlights of the school year. Each year more and more students come to school on this day, as opposed to going to work with their parent. The intent of the event has now evolved into encouraging all of our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students to begin to think about their future, and what they need to do academically in order to achieve their dream occupation.
In order for this event to be a success we need YOU! Volunteers are the lifeline of the RMS Career Fest.
We would love it if you would come to our school to talk about your job. Here is how it works:
- You arrive at RMS. We'll park your car and provide you with some coffee, water, and snacks.
- Volunteers share a brief 20 minute "presentation" about his/her job. This can be as simple as merely stating some simple facts (name, occupation, job title, education needed for your position, job duties) or bringing in DVDs, handouts, an interactive activity, etc.--whatever you feel most confident doing that will provide the best information for our students!
- The last part of each presentation is a Q&A session, where students can ask questions. We provide a template of questions to help them out.
- The presentations are repeated three times. Students rotate to different speakers during each session.
